MIAMI | First graders from St. Brendan School had the opportunity to get a close encounter of the chemistry and physics kind during a Science-Technology-Religion-Engineering-Arts-Math (STREAM) Day field trip to Christopher Columbus High March 28.

First grade teachers Marisabel Capote-Leon and Cristina Trujillo and their students went next door to meet with Columbus High's Advanced Placement (AP) chemistry teacher, Ludwig Baez, and his students to collaborate on projects focusing on chemistry and the sciences.

In the lab, first graders watched as Baez's AP Chemistry class demonstrated several chemical experiments. First-graders and high-schoolers also teamed up to make ice cream.

St. Brendan School and Columbus High hope to continue this tradition for many years to come, inspiring young minds to create, build, experiment and explore the world, as well as continue to build community and educational networking between the schools.
