MIAMI | Sts. Peter and Paul School embraced ecological awareness during the month of April. From reducing, reusing and recycling, teachers reminded students that although Earth Day is celebrated April 22, every day should be treated as Earth Day.

During their lessons, students learned the role of the ecosystem, and how easily it can become polluted.

Seventh grade teacher Maria Jose Elorriaga centered the activities of her class around St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology, and  St. Kateri, an Algonquin-Mohawks laywoman and the first Native American saint. Elorriaga also shared a rosary made of straws, soda lids and bottle caps.

A student fashion show held on April 26 highlighted clothes and accessories made from recycled materials, and displayed that just about anything can be reduced, reused and recycled for an Earth saving cause.

What a wonderful way to teach our children the value of cherishing our Earth! Thank you to all the teachers and administration that provided our students such a fun way of learning the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.
